The America’s Cup Bermuda 2017 is here

The 35th America’s Cup 2017 is underway, attracting the world’s  top sailors and yacht designers as well as a host of entrepreneurs and sponsors, this year including Louis Vuitton, BMW and Oracle to name a few.

The first America’s Cup contest was in 1851 making it the oldest trophy in international sport and is affectionately known as “Auld Mug”.

Since its first event, the America’s Cup has become one of the most prestigious events in the yachting calendar, attracting sailors from all across the world to compete. The winning team must be ahead of the game in terms of engineering, sailing, athleticism, yacht design and team-building in order to succeed and rise above their competitors.

On Saturday 10th June, the Emirates Team New Zealand and Artemis Racing went ahead in this prestigious event to fight for the right to become the “Challenger” to the Oracle Team USA. Emirates Team New Zealand had 4 wins and 2 losses and Artemis Racing had 2 wins and 4 losses in the Challenger Playoffs Final.

The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup is taking place today, bringing the best 12 national youth teams to Bermuda to race, all aged between 18-24 years. With over 20 top youth sailing team applications, fierce competition is expected as they compete to be one of the top 8 to face each other again in the lead up to the final weekend of the America’s Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton.
