The Bahamas Charter Show is the hotly anticipated, invitation-only event which will see some of the world’s finest superyachts convene for four days between February 27th and March 1st 2020. This is the chance for captains and crew to meet industry leading brokers, who are given an intimate understanding of the yachts chartering in the Bahamas, as well as a more sound appreciation for the beauty of the destination and the possibilities for visiting charter guests.

The Bahamas Post-Hurricane Dorian

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, which decimated parts of the Abaco’s and Grand Bahama islands, it is more important now than ever to showcase what the Bahamas has to offer superyachts. The economic benefits of the yachting industry to the islands, as well as the crucial role that the yachting community played in the recovery efforts post-Dorian, prompted the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism to launch this brand new show.

The show promises a thorough understanding of the Bahamas’ charter market, offering a packed schedule of panel discussions, itinerary seminars, social events, local yachting vendors and activities and lifestyle events. There will be tours of the marinas, as well as a trip to explore the Bahamas’ cruising grounds at Rose Island. The sparkling new One Particular Harbour at The Pointe and the Bay Street Marina – both in Nassau – will be the focus points of the event, with shuttles transferring invitees from one location to the other.

Showcasing the Beauty of the Bahamas

The Bahamas is an archipelago of over 700 islands and cays stretching irresistibly through the Atlantic Ocean. It is a perfect swirl of tropical beauty, turquoise seas, white and pink beaches and abounding nature. For superyachts it makes for some of the most idyllic cruising on the planet. From destinations such as the world famous Pink Sand Beach on Eleuthera’s Harbor Island, to Grand Bahama’s Tiger Beach, there is an infinite amount of places to discover. The Bahamas Charter Show will reveal the well-loved cruising grounds, but also shine a light on some of the more off-the-beaten-path treasures. In recent years, the Bahamas have worked hard to make the country appealing to superyachts. Yes, they have the natural beauty, but they have also made changes to flagging regulation, taxes and fees, and conducted a huge clean-up operation of its harbours and bays. Combine this with world-class fishing and diving and 340 days of sunshine a year and the result is a yachting destination that is becoming one of the most highly sought-after in the Caribbean.

Giving Back to the Community

The Bahamas Charter Show was created to further expand the growing superyacht industry, thus injecting money into the local economy post-Dorian and for future generations. Yet its local community reach goes further than that. As a non-profit event, the show will donate all profits to Ranfurly Home’s Step Programme. The programme aims to provide young adults over the age of 18 leaving the foster home system with a stepping stone into adult life. The show aims to raise more than $110,000 – the cost of one housing unit at The Step.

Meet the Superyachts

To attend the show, all superyachts must be available for charter in the Bahamas and surrounding regions. The line-up is tantalising and gives a perfect insight into the range of vessels of offer. From the sublime 56 metre Baba by Hargrave, with her elegant interior, expansive beach club and deck Jacuzzi, to Prout International’s Blue Gryphon, a spacious catamaran with a treasure chest of water toys, the options are far-ranging.

Motor yachts in the 30-50 metre range are well-represented in the Bahamas, their size ideal for large family groups, a good sized crew and plenty of on board amenities, but allowing them to navigate to smaller coves and anchorages. With the likes of 50 metre Trinity Yachts’ Amarula Sun, Feadship’s 36 metre Lady Victoria, and Van Mill’s 43 metre Starship all showcasing beautiful refits, charter guests are spoilt for choice.
