Christmas Special: There’s A Yacht for Everyone
‘FOR THE ENTERTAINERS’
What better place to host the party of a lifetime… than a legendary superyacht? With exterior deck spaces equally as luxurious as the extravagant interiors, top spec sound systems and unlimited champagne on ice – we can’t imagine a more unbeatable venue. Whether you’re looking to gather an intimate group of friends and family, or celebrate in style at maximum capacity, it is an invitation nobody could turn down. Our top pick party yacht from 2019 goes to 49.5M Feadship, HIGHLANDER.
HIGHLANDER, previously named THE HIGHLANDER, was originally launched in 1986 for the publisher of Forbes magazine and was frequented by numerous important and influential guests, including Hollywood legends Robert de Niro, Elizabeth Taylor and Harrison Ford. A major and extensive refit in 2014 has given this famously recognisable yacht a new lease of life. HIGHLANDER’s timeless styling and endless facilities including a disco lounge, large jacuzzi with multi coloured LED lights and an impressive range of water toys, allow guests to live as glamorous and opulent a lifestyle as the original owner.
‘FOR THE COLOURFUL’
With superyacht design now taking influence from all four corners of the globe and input from the most extravagant and eccentric individuals in the world, more colourful and innovative designs are constantly emerging. One flamboyant example is Turquoise Yachts' latest flagship, 77m superyacht GO. A strikingly coloured hull acts as an introduction to an ‘Island Turquoise’ colour scheme that is continued with subtle and contemporary placement throughout the interior and deck spaces; giving life to the ‘water in motion’ theme, used as inspiration for all aspects of the design.
Also in the spotlight is Mondomarine’s 50m IPANEMA, turning heads wherever she goes with her striking red hull by Hot Lab. The interior of IPANEMA is a sharp contrast, with a bold and eclectic juxtaposition of traditional and modern artistic styles.
At the very top of our choices for colourful superyachts is, of course, the dazzling 49M Palmer Johnson, KHALILAH. With her pearlescent gold finish, radical exterior lines, vibrant interior colour palette and array of unique artwork, KHALILAH pushes the boundaries in every aspect of her visual design. However, these are not necessarily even the most innovative or impressive elements of KHALILAH. The interior space is nothing short of astonishing with a 110 square metre aft deck and 11M beam – paired with the extensive use of glass for uninterrupted views. What’s more, her angular hull design allows for a 30-knot top speed and exceptional stability and comfort without the need for fins or gyro stabilisers.
‘FOR THE TRADITIONAL’
For those preferring a more traditional environment, you’re faced with two options in terms of superyacht. The first, a classic yacht that has been recently refitted. This provides you with the best of both worlds, a classic, traditional superstructure with the comfort and luxury of a modern super yacht. A perfect example of this would be 35M OVER THE RAINBOW – a 1930’s classic motor yacht with a colourful history and, after an impeccably executed refit, an immaculate interior and exterior with all the modern amenities. OVER THE RAINBOW features a stylish and cosy interior, with panelled wood throughout complemented by light, neutral fabrics.
Your second option is a newly built yacht, with a timeless and luxurious design. Our top choice for the traditional category epitomises these characteristics, 52M Sanlorenzo LADY LENA. Classic design interiors with rich wood panelling, cream coloured soft furnishings and fine art work together to create opulent interior spaces. Offering versatile accommodation for up to 12 guests, all cabins are exquisitely finished, the master suite particularly so, with a separate office and onyx-clad bathroom, complete with his and hers vanity, full bath and separate shower room. Moving away from the palatial interior, LADY LENA’s outdoor spaces are equally impressive, highlighted by the main deck’s stunning glass bottomed endless swimming pool. The vast sundeck embraces its position at the top of the vessel, with panoramic views from the jacuzzi, sunbeds and casual alfresco dining space. This yacht is sublime.
‘FOR THE FAST AND FURIOUS’
Yachts have previously been seen to be all about leisurely cruising, sipping champagne, surrounded by luxury. More recently, power and performance have gradually come into the equation. Cutting edge technology, combined with the need to meet increasingly high standards, means that the world’s fastest superyachts now not only look incredible, but also have very high cruising speeds.
Marine horsepower has never been so abundant, not only are small boats getting faster, but fast boats are getting bigger. The custom features of a yacht that drive people to buy or charter them are often the things slowing them down, high quality natural materials like marble and onyx, luxuriously large cabins below decks and folding balconies. Designers and engineers continue to have their work cut out, whilst we increase demand for horsepower – we are simultaneously taking away the space to fit it. Somehow, they continue to exceed expectations.
Our recommendation for the speed category is 41M Palmer Johnson DRAGON. DRAGON epitomises the seemingly impossible amalgamation of performance, comfort, space and luxury. Her visually striking exterior, with sleek lines and sporty finish, leads seamlessly into the contemporary and stylish interior – finished in Black African Wenge wood, white onyx and marble. The layout of DRAGON’s interior has been designed in geometric patterns to create natural flow from one area to another and to emphasise open space. Her generous beam allows for a large sundeck, fly bridge, jacuzzi and five substantial guest cabins. DRAGON is able to attain a top speed of 35 knots and at cruising speed of 25 knots she has an economical range of 1000 nautical miles.
‘FOR THE ADVENTUROUS’
The sheer level of adventure and exploration becoming accessible in the world of super yacht charter is unparalleled. More so than ever, people are going in search of extreme travel and off-the-beaten-track experiences. Whether you’d like to explore the beauty of remote pacific islands, cruise through iceberg scattered waters or discover hidden corners of the fjords of Norway, there are now specifically equipped yachts for this new breed of charter. ‘Explorer’ or ‘Expedition’ yachts are built with world cruising in mind. They are fitted out with state-of-the-art technology, equipment and machinery, and constructed in ocean-going materials, plus the on-board amenities that facilitate long voyages to remote destinations. This in no way suggests that the usual features of a luxury super yacht are compromised - these yachts are packed with gyms, saunas, spas, cinemas, water toys and more for guests to enjoy.
One of the coolest and most dynamic yachts to come onto the market this year is 85M SilverYachts BOLD. The aluminium constructed cruiser has been described as “a fast world explorer vessel with a genuine, fully-fledged superyacht finish”. BOLD features a 300 square metre skylounge with 3.75M floor-to-ceiling windows, providing exceptional views of the land and sea-scapes around her. She carries three custom Rupert Marine RIBs and a wide selection of water toys, including two Sea-Doo jetskis, plus a helipad that can accommodate a helicopter with a D value of 12, on her 34M aft deck. With accommodation for up to 18 guests in 8 cabins, including an owner’s suite, BOLD’s cool, contemporary and comfortable interior spaces are a welcome contrast to her technical and utilitarian exterior. Her maiden voyage saw her cover 8000 nautical miles in 21 days, with just one single fuel stop required. Need we say more!
