The sun shone down on Port Hercules for 29^th edition of the superyacht world’s largest and most prestigious show, an extravaganza which delivered everything it promised….and more. More than 120 superyachts crowded into Monaco, where some 600 exhibitors and thousands of attendees poured through the gates. The team at TJB Super Yachts were there in force, with an action-packed line-up of new yachts to visit and new clients to meet. Here we take a look back on the highlights of a hugely successful show.

This year’s MYS got off to a dazzling start on the eve of the show with the 6th annual Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards, which took place at the Yacht Club de Monaco. Some 350 guests arrived to celebrate the three winning vessels which made their world debut at the show.  The MYS/RINA award went to 64-metre ATTILA, the largest yacht built by Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo. Her outstandingly high environmental standards have seen her crowned the eco-friendliest superyacht at the MYS.

The MYS Interior Design Award was awarded to the largest yacht at the show, the 111-metre TIS by Lurssen and Winch Design Interiors for her lavish and palatial style. Lastly, but by no means least, was the MYS Exterior Design Award which was scooped up by the 80-metre Abeking & Rasmussen yacht Excellence. With her distinctive plumb bow and floor to ceiling windows she was also awarded the most coveted of the night’s awards: the MYS Finest New Superyacht award, and declared the future of superyacht design according to judges

With the awards ceremony launching the show off with a bang, the doors were flung open on September 25th and the show officially commenced. There was non-stop action throughout the show’s four days, with the yachts themselves the stars of the show. With too many world debuting yachts to mention, a few stood out including the gleaming SYZYGY 818, Feadship’s new 77-metre charter yacht. Feadship really knew how to draw the crowds this year with a full-motion model of SYZYGY 818 on their stand.

Another notable yacht was the 85-metre expedition yacht BOLD, the new flagship of SilverYachts who was resplendent in all aluminium. Designer Espen Oeino was available to show off his latest design to media and guests.

The 50-metre BINTADOR, a brand new hybrid design from Italian company Tankoa Yachts, proved that eco-awareness was on the rise in yachting. With her near-silent range of almost 5,000 nautical miles, her hybrid engines are revolutionary and able to reach speeds of 18 knots. And speaking of hybrid technology, Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman unveiled their concept yacht Sangi, which promises to be smarter and more adaptable. A 55-metre lightweight aluminium hull, open-plan living and choice of hybrid or full electric drive systems have made this one to watch.

Not to be left out, Perini Navi presented their new Falcon Rig Gallery at the show, an entire product range of yachts from 56 metres to 92 metres. Taking inspiration from the iconic MALTESE FALCON which burst onto the scene in a blur of innovation in 2006, Perini Navi have now laid bare their intentions to focus on innovation.

Dragging ourselves away from the yachts for a while, we explored the rest of the show. The stands were bustling with activity, especially over in the Toys and Tenders Zone. A mind-boggling array of gadgets and water toys were on display, while next door the prestige cars drew the crowds. Combined with the Luxury Gallery, this sector of the show has created a one-stop-shop for the luxury lifestyle, making the Monaco Yacht Show an all-encompassing event for UHNWI’s.

A hot topic this year was the latest technology in the sphere of AV/IT, cybersecurity and connectivity. Revolutionary technologies unveiled by companies such as VBH (who launched their partnership with Atlas Cybersecurity) are highly sought after by yachts looking to remain at the forefront of wireless connectivity.

What was most evident from the huge success of the Monaco Yacht Show 2019 is that the superyacht industry is booming. Within the charter market some $18 million of charter revenue per week was generated and $2.5 billion of sale yachts were on display. But for the team at TJB Super Yachts and all the other exhibitors and attendees, the MYS was a true celebration of an industry which flies the flag for innovation and the epitome of luxury, and we were honoured to take part.
