Superyachts making their mark in Amsterdam

Amsterdam isn’t a place that would usually associate with superyachts but Holland Yachting Group (HISWA) and Port of Amsterdam are working to change this, with the intention to make Amsterdam a recognised and unique superyacht destination.

A new generation of yacht owners are now looking for something more original, moving away from the tradition Mediterranean and Caribbean superyacht destinations. The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show provides a great opportunity to really put Amsterdam on the superyacht destinations map.

The Netherlands already produce luxury superyachts and with a recognition of the need to adapt to different markets, they continue to produce quality superyachts with great success.

Port of Amsterdam is actually the fourth largest port in Western Europe and is also in a fantastic position, between the Atlantic and the Baltic, making it the ideal starting point for superyacht charters to Ireland, the UK, Scandinavia and St Petersburg.

There are a number of leading superyacht builders located in the Netherlands including Oceano, Heesen,  Amels and Feadship to name but a few. Feadship are currently the world leaders in pure custom superyachts and are currently building a new construction and refit facility in Amsterdam, with the capacity to build up to 160 meters in length. Intended to open in 2019, this will be with fourth Feadship facility, the second to be run by Royal Van Lent.

Amsterdam is not only a good superyacht destination on paper, but also has Europe’s third largest airport (Schiphol) just 15 minutes away as well as having a long maritime history, making for facilities that really understand the needs of superyacht owners.

METS Amsterdam will be taking place later on in the year from 13th-15th November and will include an exhibition within the British Pavilion and Superyacht Pavilion with British Marine. METSTRADE Show is the world’s biggest B2B marine equipment show, focussing on innovation, market developments and on-site networking. 116 nationalities will be represented at the show, offering excellent networking opportunities within the heart of the industry.
